The Twins
Fire & BloodThe Twins is identified as one of several venues for the Widow Fairs held in the Riverlands after the royal wedding. Its recorded role in the account is as a setting for marriages that helped find new homes for northmen who had marched south to war.
The Widow Fair
With winter approaching, Lady Alysanne Blackwood proposed matching some of the returning northmen with widows in the Riverlands. More than a thousand northmen accompanied her and her nephew, Lord Benjicot Blackwood, back to the region. The resulting fairs were held at Raventree, Riverrun, Stoney Sept, The Twins, and Fairmarket; hundreds of marriages were made across them.
Participants and Outcomes
The fairs offered one route for northmen to remain in the south rather than return to households facing hardship. Those who did not wish to marry could swear their swords to lords as guards and men-at-arms. A few instead turned to outlawry and met bad ends, but the account describes Alysanne’s broader matchmaking effort as successful.
Place in the Riverlands’ Recovery
The Twins appears in the list of venues that connected displaced northmen with Riverlands communities. Collectively, the resettled men strengthened the lords who welcomed them, particularly House Tully and House Blackwood, and helped revive and spread the worship of the old gods south of the Neck. The account does not distinguish the individual outcomes of the fair at The Twins from those of the other venues.
